For the most accurate weight estimation, follow these guidelines when using the weigh tape:
- Find a level floor surface and have all four legs under body.
- The animal should have their head upright in a normal position, since having their head down can cause their chest to expand and their skin to bunch up.
- Remove excess dirt and manure on the underside of the animal.
- Place tape around the animal at the heart girth, just behind the front legs and shoulder blades.
- Take up slack but do not tighten excessively and the tape should be flat but not twisted.
- Read weight estimation on the scale.
